PREDICTION: Texas Tech returns to action against Arizona

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Soccer team returns to action against Arizona on Sunday at the John Walker Soccer Complex. The start is set at 19:00

Coming off a 2-0 win over Troy, the Red Raiders (1-0-0) will face Arizona (1-0-0) to round out the first week of action.

Macy Blackburn He led the way Thursday, recording assists on both of Tech’s goals. The sophomore was also the Red Raiders’ only preseason All-Big 12 team selection.

Listening to the Wildcats

Arizona opened the 2022 campaign with a win over fellow Big 12 Iowa State. The Wildcats came from behind to tie the game in the 81st minute before an own goal in the minute closed the deal. Quincy Bonds scored Arizona’s goal in the 81stSt minute after a Sami Baytosh corner.

  • Macy Blackburn was the Red Raiders’ lone preseason All-Big 12 selection. The defenseman led the team with nine assists last season and collected All-Freshman All-Big 12 Team, Second Team All-Midwest Region and All-Freshman Second Team honors.
  • After leading the team with nine assists a year ago, Blackburn picked up right where he left off, tallying two against Troy in the opener.
  • Texas Tech was picked to finish fourth in the Big 12 Coaches preseason poll. The Red Raiders were scheduled behind TCU, Texas and West Virginia.
  • The Red Raiders lost the team’s leading scorer from a year ago Kirsten Davis. However, the team returns its second leading scorer (Ashleigh Williams), help the leader (Blackburn) and save the leader (Madison White).
  • White currently ranks fifth in Tech’s career goals against record (0.94), fourth in career shutouts (18) and seventh in career saves (140).

  • This season’s captains are super seniors Charlotte Teeter and fourth grade senior Hannah Anderson. Teeter opened his final season with a goal.
  • This season marks the 15th season the Red Raiders have played at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Tech is two wins away from its 100th win at Walker.
