Facebook and Instagram Get More Creator Tools: What’s New?

Meta recently introduced new creator tools for both Instagram and Facebook. As part of the company’s announcement during Creator Week 2022, new ways for creators to make money on social media platforms were announced.

Here’s a look at all the new additions. Please note that most of these features are currently only available to US creators or select creators. More information on when these features might come to more regions, including India, has yet to be officially revealed.

Instagram gets support for Digital Collectibles

Instagram creators will soon be able to create their own digital collectibles on the platform and sell them to followers. Shopping won’t be limited to just Instagram, either. Meta will achieve this by using an end-to-end toolset that will help creators start creating their own NFTs on the Polygon blockchain, along with displaying and selling the same.

The features will roll out to a small group of creators in the US first, but are expected to roll out to more users and regions soon after. Meta also adds support for video collectibles, as well as the Solana blockchain and the Phantom wallet to its existing list of supported services.

Subscriptions are coming to Instagram

All US creators now have access to Instagram subscriptions. The feature allows creators to set a certain amount as a subscription fee so that more creators can earn predictable income and connect more with followers. A button to subscribe to creators with this option will be visible on their profile.

To be eligible, creators must be at least 18 years old and have 10,000 followers or more. The feature is expected to come to creators in more regions later.

Facebook stars, Instagram gifts and more

Instagram users can also send gifts to their favorite creators by purchasing “stars” from within Instagram. Stars, originally a Facebook addition, can now also be used with Reels.

Star submitters will also be easier for creators to find in the new Comment Manager, which will display all of these comments in one place. Viewers can now also submit stars for non-video content such as photos and text posts.

Facebook creators also get a pro mode for their profiles that allows them to earn money with stars, add ads to Facebook Reels, and also get access to content and audience analytics and other resources.
