Instagram added 100 million users from February 2021 to November 2021.
Meta-owned photo-sharing app Instagram has grown its user base in India by 100 million users over the past nine months. Last year in February, the app had 210 million users in India and in November 2021 it reached 309 million users. And now the social media platform expects to reach 400 million users by the end of the current month, which is August 2022.
According to a report by Economic Times, Instagram was the most downloaded short video social media app in India in the first half of 2022. The app had around 118.7 million downloads, while Facebook it had about 86.6 million downloads. Other short video apps had between 25 and 40 million downloads. The report says influencers, shopping and other marketing tools, as well as Instagram’s short video format and reels have catapulted the app’s growth. Considering the popularity of Instagram reels, Meta has even extended the length of a reel to 90 seconds. It has also introduced new features like collabs and Remix that allow users to make reels with friends or followers.
News of Instagram’s growth comes after parent company Meta announced its first revenue decline as a publicly traded company during its latest quarterly earnings reports through June 30, 2022. It reported a revenue of $28.8 billion for the three months ending June 2022. This is a 1% decline from the year-ago quarter.
