Westwood Elementary had a free backpack giveaway at its open house Monday night

Hundreds of students at Dayton’s Westwood Elementary School received free backpacks and school supplies this week. This is thanks to Revival Center Ministries. WYSO’s Garrett Reese was at the school’s open house for the drawing.

People slowly file into the Westwood Elementary School gym on Monday evening. Inside, there is a ring of tables with piles of backpacks and school supplies. The kids take charge, dragging their parents behind them, and excitedly grab their new free supplies. Revival Center Ministries donated over 400 bags to help students and their families prepare for the school year with less worries.

Belinda Mitchell is a ministry elder at Revival Center Ministries. He organized the raffle and helped fill the 400 backpacks.

“Oh my goodness!” exclaimed Mitchell. “It feels amazing to give back to the community. Revival Center Ministries has always given back to the downtown community. But to do this and partner with Miss Baker, principal of Westwood School, is just rewarding for to see the children smile and be happy.”

Revival Center Ministries also partners with Westwood Elementary for after-school programs.
