OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Need a helping hand? If so, be sure to show up near Wilshire and Broadway Extension on Saturday morning for another Ebenezer Helping Hand Giveaway.
This is one of several that Ebenezer Baptist Church has had over the past two years where they have given away hundreds, if not thousands, of household items for free.
It was hard work in the heat for the volunteers on Friday, but for a good cause as they prepared for another big draw which takes place on Saturday at 10am.
“I love to help,” said Qvontae Dubose, one of the volunteers who helps unload items from the trucks. “I like to help people.”
This will be in Northeast Oklahoma City, located at 500 E. Wilshire, near the Broadway extension at the Christian Missionary Baptist Church.
Four 26-foot UHauls and also a 53-foot trailer totaling about $175,000 in items alone have goods ready to be delivered to those in need in the community.
Anything from diapers and fans to lawnmowers, leaf blowers and other home furnishings, if you want it, they’ve got it.
“We’ve been able to bless the community and again, this is an extension of that blessing,” said Pastor Christine Byrd, local pastor and assistant with the raffle “You’ll see us all over Oklahoma City, all over the state of Oklahoma. probably.”
His last, and largest, gift was on the southwest side of town, to the Rancho Village Baptist Church.
This is supposed to be the second largest, with a total of over $200,000 worth of items.
“We can’t continue to have the church within our four walls,” Byrd said. “We need to go out and minister to the community.”
In the roughly 18 months they’ve been giving away, they’ve given away more than $12 million worth of home goods.
“Look for better things because, as we say in church, the best is yet to come,” Byrd.
All items were donated by World Vision.
Officials with the lottery said if you show up at 10 a.m. Saturday, you’re technically late.
There are always a lot of people out there and even some who stay to sleep. They ask people to go early if you want to get something.
