The group of women lights up the street with gifts for the public

A ladies’ institute in Newton-le-Willows has graced the high street with gifts.

Viaduct Violets hand made a post box, currently placed in a box near the Riddling Rack on Newton High Street, with gifts hanging for members of the community to enjoy.

They later shared a post with the community in hopes of brightening their day.

The ladies of the craft group were led by Angela Murray to create the topper for the high street.

Jill Rigby, President of Viaduct Violets WI, said: “We are a group of women of different ages and backgrounds with different interests, but we love getting together at meetings to hear a speaker or enjoy time to get to know each other .

“We play a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the opportunity to develop new skills, participate in a wide variety of activities and campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities “.

Viaducte Violetes is a branch of the Women’s Institute that offers women in the community the opportunity to participate in social activities.

The Newton group was formed five years ago and is part of the Lancashire Women’s Federation Institute.

A craft group is organized at the high school, along with organized outings and walks for members to participate.

Women also participate in online courses that cover important topics as well as fun subjects such as arts and cooking.

The women meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the St. Patrick’s Community Center.

The Women’s Institute was established in 1915 in the hope of restoring rural communities and encouraging women to contribute to food production during the First World War.

Since its formation, it has expanded to become the UK’s largest voluntary women’s organisation.

The Women’s Institute celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015 and currently has 190,000 members in approximately 6,000 institutes.
