A coalition of several local charities, in partnership with the Lee County Health Department, will offer free COVID-19 vaccines, booster shots and on-site testing on Saturday.
Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be available for those who need to choose their preference. These will be available at the Piggly Wiggly at 2412 S. Horner Blvd, Sanford, from 11 am to 3 pm for anyone from infants to 99 years old.
The first 25 people, at least 18 years old, to receive the COVID-19 vaccine will receive a voucher up to $20 for a free turkey.
“As we head into the holiday season, where friends and family will gather together, that’s what the virus loves,” said Bob Finch. “The virus loves close contact, and it’s important that we protect those we love by protecting ourselves by getting the shots or getting the booster. It wouldn’t hurt to get tested before going to mom’s house or grandma, and that’s why we also have free test kits available to the public, while supplies last. The take-home test is easy and can save a life.”
Finch said many have been hesitant to vaccinate their children.
“The biggest unvaccinated group is children, I don’t know why, but there is doubt on the part of parents and, unfortunately, a large number of our community,” he said. “Some are hesitant, or simply don’t have access to adequate health coverage, and we encourage anyone to go out and get tested, get vaccinated, so we can stop the spread of this virus during the holidays. Unlike the flu, where you know you’ve had the flu, because it’s obvious: not everyone gets COVID-19, and yet you can pass it on to a loved one and they get really sick, or worse, so I really encourage that. everyone to get the vaccine.”
Testing and vaccinations for this event will be available on November 19th from 11 am to 3 pm at the Piggly Wiggly on S Horner Blvd. No insurance or ID required, just bring yourself and your loved ones. For more information, contact Bob Finch at 919-961-4045.
