The community cleanup day also includes a giveaway on Saturday

Jackson, Tenn. — A raffle will be held Saturday during the Jackson Community Clean Up Day.

Clean Up Day is held to curb illegal dumping in the city by allowing items such as mattresses, furniture and tires to be disposed of.

The resource will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Additionally, the first 75 Jackson residents with trucks or trailers will receive a free 8-by-10 tarp.

The cleanup day will be held at two locations in the city: Muse Park and Jackson Fairgrounds Park. Tarps will be provided at both locations.

Robin Chance, the recycling coordinator for the city of Jackson, says the community needs recycling resources like this to reduce the amount of bulk waste in the city.

Chance says they chose these items to recycle because they are some of the most common items dumped in the city. Officials have also launched an online method for residents in addition to the giveaways.

“We have a resource list for businesses in this area that do bulk waste pickup, temporary dumpsters, things like that. So you can call them directly if you need help with that. I also made a recycling list. So that we have over 24 categories of items and 30 businesses in this area that residents can take to recycle,” Chance said.

The Community Clean Up and Tarp Your Load resource events are the first of their kind, but not planned to be the last.

“We’re planning to do this event several times. And this will allow us to get some feedback from the community. While we’re still getting items, we can plan new events. I think, especially something we want to look at, maybe some spring events as well,” he said. said Chance.

Officials hope to have another event in September and October. Dates, times and locations are still to be determined.

The tarps were provided by both Keep Tennessee Beautiful and the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
