Jackson, Tenn. – The City of Jackson’s Keep Jackson Beautiful Committee will be holding a raffle in conjunction with the Department of Health and Sanitation’s “Community Clean Up Day” this Saturday.
The clean-up day aims to curb illegal dumping in the city by allowing items such as mattresses, furniture and tires to be disposed of.
The first 75 Jackson residents with trucks and trailers to attend the event will receive a free 8×10 tarp.
“It is very important that persons transporting items in the back of their trucks and trailers have adequate means of securing their loads. State law dictates that vehicles transporting debris or any other item be reasonably covered with a tarp to keep litter from getting in and creating driving hazards on our roads,” said Robin Chance, Recycling Coordinator for the City of Jackson, TN. “This is a wonderful event to educate residents and provide a resource to help them comply and help reduce potential hazards.”
The cleanup day will take place in two places in the city: Muse Park and Jackson Fairgrounds. The tarpaulins will be distributed to the first 75 trucks with trailers for the two facilities. Commercial businesses are not eligible.
The sweepstakes is sponsored by Keep Tennessee Beautiful and the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
“Keeping our city beautiful requires personal responsibility and this canvas gift is one of many steps we can take to help make that happen,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “I’m excited that Keep Tennessee Beautiful and TDoT are willing to provide these tarps during our cleanup day to combat illegal dumping.”
