TEXARKANA — Chris Daly, known professionally as DJ Hollygrove on Da Track, is hosting a turkey raffle on a first-come, first-served basis Nov. 20 at Mount Grove Full Gospel Baptist Church.
The draw starts at 2pm
This is Daly’s seventh year running the community raffle. Last year approximately 280 turkeys were distributed.
Each year, Daly hopes to give away 300 turkeys, and always hosts the raffle at Mount Grove, where he is an active member.
“I’m a deejay and a lot of people support me,” he said. “I can’t ask you to support me if I don’t pay them back.”
Daly is from New Orleans and experienced the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. He witnessed how residents were forced to evacuate their homes and abandon their possessions in order to relocate and restart their lives.
“I was homeless for a while and wanted to give back to people in need,” Daly said. “I know how it feels, and I love giving back to people. I have that kind of heart.”
If it were up to Daly, he would distribute over 10,000 turkeys to the community and do whatever he could to make sure every family in Texarkana could enjoy the holiday. In addition to the annual turkey raffle, Daly also hosts a toy drive at Christmas and a backpack giveaway at the beginning of each school year.
“I just want to be a blessing to the community,” Daly said.
