Kids Day in Brownstown to offer old-fashioned games and giveaways for all ages – The News Herald

Brownstown Township hosts plenty of summer activities for downriver residents young and old, but the Kids’ Day event is one of the most popular of all.

As for Sue Trussell, director of the Downtown Development Authority, it tops her list.

Kids Day is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 24 at the Event Center, 23345 King Road.

“This is my favorite event of the summer,” Trussell said. “It’s great to see all the kids enjoying free family fun on a summer day in Brownstown. They can come for a few minutes and enjoy the fun or stay all day. There’s plenty to keep kids busy.”

The Downriver West Kiwanis coordinates vintage games for children.

Trussell said the club goes out of its way to set up a play area designed just for kids.

There will be sack races, pie eating contest, water bucket relay and many more activities.

“It’s so much fun to see the kids enjoying the old-fashioned games,” Trussell said.

Kids are sure to enjoy the chance to try their hand at the free cupcake decorating station, coordinated by A Serendipity Cakery of Riverview.

The Brownstown Parks and Recreation Department will host a Chalk the Walk contest.

Carey Ann’s Clown Caravan will be there with free face painting.

Visitors may not want to miss a stop at the Home Depot station, which is giving away DIY kits.

Brownstown’s Sportway and Woodhaven’s Rev’d Up Fun also have fun. Both will keep the party going with their own variety of games to play.

With the start of school right around the corner, Advantage One Credit Union will be having a school bag giveaway to get kids started collecting supplies.

Many of the vendors set up for the holidays will also have gift items.
