BRYAN, Texas – The arrival of cold weather brings excitement and joy for some. But if you don’t have heat at home or warm clothes to pack, a winter cold can rob you of the joy the holidays should bring.
“In the past, we’ve had families that had a couple of kids that had to alternate which day one kid wore a coat,” said Ron Crozier of Twin City Mission. “Because all they had was one coat for two children. .”
Every year around this time, Twin City Mission hosts a coat and blanket drive, followed by a day of free distribution. This year, this distribution day is Thursday, November 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m
So far, the people of Aggieland have opened their hearts and wallets to support this effort.
“We have a tremendous community that wants to take the stress off these families and say, ‘here are some coats, here are some blankets.’ breathe Relax,” Crozier said.
Crozier estimates that coats and blankets will be given to more than 1,200 people in financial need this week.
While the Twin City has seen an abundance of all kinds of donations, there is one area of need where they could still use a little help.
“Abbots for children,” said Crozier. “Everything from toddlers to four-year-olds. We seem to run out quicker, and I think that’s because the people who come in for items that day, they look after their kids first.”
Donations can be dropped off at the Twin City Mission office building at 2505 S. College Ave., not to be confused with the shelter near downtown Bryan.
The office space is also where Thursday’s clothes and blankets delivery will take place.
