A Pender County man will hold an annual food raffle in Currie

CURRIE, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County man hopes to fill the stomachs and hearts of those in need before Thanksgiving.

This will be David Graham’s 11th year holding his annual “Feeding the Needy & Unfortunate” event. It will be held on Saturday November 12 at 11am at the Minnie Newkirk Park Center in Currie.

Graham owns Dave and Lloyd’s Produce Farm and a catering business, which he uses to cook fresh home-cooked meals for members of the community.

“I was inspired by my brother in Bolivia. They went there and had a “feed the needy” there and help them, and I was inspired to do it myself. So now that makes me 11th year doing it, and I’m proud of it,” said David Graham’s, event organizer.

Graham will be serving turkey, barbecue, ribs, slaw, biscuits and more.

Kent Armstrong has been helping Graham with the annual event for years and says it takes months to plan, but it’s worth the effort.

“It’s good to know that you are doing a worthy cause and helping someone. You know, that’s the less fortunate that can’t help themselves, it feels good. It’s a wonderful thing to see their smiling faces happy to enjoy a good, delicious meal,” volunteer Kent Armstrong said.

Graham says people will be able to come to the park and get a free meal, no questions asked.

“I thank God for giving me the strength and the encouraging mind to continue doing this every year, because there are many places that throw away food and there are people out there who are suffering and have nothing to eat, and I am blessed. “I’m blessed. So, and I want to keep helping people,” Graham said.

Graham says over the years, hundreds of people have traveled from all over Pender County for one of the free meals, and he expects a big turnout tomorrow.
