The Simpsons: Hit and Run is widely used as one of the best licensed games out there and has been used by a couple of other people to create a new Futurama experience. The Simpsons: Hit and Run was released in 2003 just two years after Rockstar ushered Grand Theft Auto into the 3D open world era with Grand Theft. The industry was tearing up with GTA 3 and the sequel, Vice City. It wasn’t long until a bunch of imitators started popping up, but The Simpsons: Hit and Run invented it and gave it the energy of The Simpsons. It was hugely successful and holds a place in the hearts of many of us today. For a year before the release of Hit and Run, Futurama had a video game that was also received much less positively.
Now a group of developers called the Slurm Team are modifying The Simpsons: Hit and Run to make use of a whole new level of Futurama (via ResetEra). The level is set on the main stage in New York; and is played with Fry, Bender and Leela, all with voice-based dialogue; however, the liners are a bit far from the show. The project is a very ambitious undertaking and certainly worth it. While it’s unlikely that a new Futurama game will be explored, it’s likely to scratch the itch of anyone who’s been waiting for this world outside of the streaming world. Since then, the team hopes to have a demo ready by the end of August or sometime in September.
In addition to this, a reubs developer on YouTube has been working on making The Simpsons: Hit and Run. As it stands, there are no plans to publish it (in light of copyright), but it’s a remarkable achievement. The remake already added GTA 5 character changer and more. The original game is definitely worth it.
