High on Life, the weird-looking shooter coming to Xbox and PC later this year, is now coming out a little later in the year – December 13th, to be exact.
Squanch Games, the studio led by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, had originally set an October 2022 release window for High on Life, meaning this delay pushes its release back by approx. six weeks It seems to take a little more time to polish.
“We have good news and bad news. Feel free to choose the option you prefer to read first – we will not interfere with your free will,” reads an update shared on the game’s official Twitter account. “The good news: High on Life is still coming in 2022! Squanch Games is working hard to develop the best gaming experience to hit your screens, and a little extra time to iron out some bugs doesn’t hurt.”

As you’d expect from a game coming from Roiland, High on Life seems to be full of wacky comedy and big sci-fi ideas, molded around what appears to be a first-person shooter framework with Metroidvania elements. You will play as an intergalactic bounty hunter on a mission to take down an alien cartel using human life energy to power yourself up. The announcement trailer looked like some sort of Psychonauts on psychedelics.
High On Life will launch on October 25, 2022, and will be an Xbox “console launch exclusive,” leaving open the possibility that it will come to other platforms in the future.
