Retail listings for the new Tales from the Borderlands game have revealed new details about the title and seemingly confirmed its release date as well.
According to Amazon, the game is officially titled ‘New Tales from the Borderlands’.
The retailer says it will launch for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and Switch on October 21, 2022, when it will presumably also be available for PC.
The product description reads: “Take a stand against ruthless corporate overlords in this narrative-driven adventure! Inside the perpetually war-torn metropolis of Promethea, you’ll control Anu, Octavio, and Fran on their worst day of their lives.
“Help these three lovable losers as they strive to change the world (and maybe even save it)! Face a planetary invasion, a vicious vault monster and a cold-hearted capitalist in this thrilling cinematic journey where what happens depends on you!
“Meet a motley crew of misfits, killer robots and talking guns in this race to the top! It’s time to fight back against exploitation and corporate greed.”
Gearbox announced in April that it was developing a “new Tales from the Borderlands adventure” for release in 2022. It said more details would be shared this summer, and a Gamescom reveal next week now seems likely .
Released in 2014 and developed by Telltale Games, the original Tales from the Borderlands is a five-part episodic game set in Pandora between the events of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3.
Publishing label Take-Two 2K said this month that the Borderlands franchise had shipped more than 75 million units.
2012’s Borderlands 2 is their best-selling title with over 26 million copies shipped, while 2019’s Borderlands 3 is their best-selling game with over 15 million copies shipped.
Saber Interactive owner Embracer Group acquired Texas-based Gearbox last year in a deal that could be worth as much as $1.4 billion.
Following the announcement of the acquisition, 2K said it would continue to work with Gearbox on the Borderlands franchise and also hinted at collaborations on other projects.
In April, Gearbox announced plans to acquire US studio Lost Boys Interactive, which co-developed the recently released Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
