A former Kamloops Blazer has taken home the bronze medal in the 1500m wheelchair event at the 2022 Canada Summer Games Niagra.
Kyrell Sopotyk, now 20, saw his hockey career come to an end after a snowboarding accident in January 2021 that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Since recovering from his accident, Sopotyk has remained active in sports.
He has also competed in wheelchair basketball on a national stage.
Earlier this year, the Blazers honored him in a pregame ceremony.
Sopotyk was a fifth-round pick of the Blazers in the 2016 WHL Draft.
In 107 games with Kamloops between 2018 and 2020, the Aberdeen, Sask. native got 45 points.
