Daniel Jones knows fourth quarter comebacks well; leads the NFL with five wins entering Week 8. Accordingly, he recently joined the Giants Huddle podcast to talk about the team’s resilience and how he’s using his experience to lead the offense.
Jones attributed the team’s success to the overall mindset. “We have a group that is prepared and stays calm until the end of the games,” he admitted. In the end, players understand the complexity of each game. “There’s so little separation between winning and losing, and the margin for error is so small. It’s about who can perform well at the end of games and who can take advantage of opportunities or make one more play when it counts at the end.”
With injuries persisting at wide receiver, Jones also talked about building a relationship with each of his targets. Relationships that start in the boardroom translate to the football field on Sundays. Most important, Jones added, is the preparation of his receivers. “I think it starts with these guys. These guys have done a great job of coming in and knowing what to do.”
Jones shared that he gains confidence, especially in the run game, with each accumulated week of experience. He’s making quicker decisions to keep the ball himself and, alternatively, knows when to make more substantial shots down the field. “Make a decision and go with it, and trust that decision,” he reiterated.
Taking advantage of Saquon’s success, Jones has been able to fly under the radar, to some extent, as a rushing threat. But as the Giants prepare to face the Seahawks in Week 8, Jones knows that using his legs will continue to be crucial to the team’s success.
