According to Jones, he was not provided with the details of the allegations or given a “full and fair opportunity to defend himself” against the allegations.

A city spokeswoman said the city’s standard practice is not to comment on personnel matters or potential litigation.

“Mouton has always been an advocate of integrity, taking all necessary steps to ensure that city leadership complies with all laws,” Jones said in the statement.

He also said: “Mr Mouton is clear that the actions in this matter were taken to silence and retaliate against him. He is deeply saddened by the way events have unfolded, but rest assured that Mr Mouton he intends to take all necessary steps to protect his professional reputation and hold accountable those responsible for the false and defamatory allegations against him and the retaliation he is currently suffering. In short, Mr. Mouton will take all legal action necessary to vindicate himself and protect his professional reputation against the misleading and false accusations that have been made against him for political reasons”.
