One of a man’s two dachshunds died after a man tried to steal it at gunpoint and shot the dogs Friday night in Tampa.
Around 7 p.m., the man was walking his two dogs in the 2600 block of West Powhatan Avenue, a residential area near North Armenia Avenue, when a gunman came up behind him and demanded money, according to the Tampa Police Department.
When the dogs became agitated, the gunman shot them several times, hitting one of the dogs, according to police.
The man walking the dogs picked them up and ran as the gunman gave chase and fired two more shots, police said. He escaped and went to an emergency vet, where one of the dogs died from his injuries.
Tampa police are searching for the gunman and are asking anyone with information to call 813-231-6130. People with information can also submit a tip to TIP411.
Police did not provide any additional information as of Saturday afternoon.
