Manchester police are investigating a shooting at Buckland Hills Mall after a security guard was injured Friday.
According to the Manchester Police Department, a shooting was reported in the parking lot outside the Macy’s Men’s store shortly after noon. Officers found a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound just inside the store’s entrance. He was taken to Hartford Hospital, according to police.
Police said a preliminary investigation shows the man who was shot was a Macy’s loss prevention officer trying to stop a robbery.
“We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred today at Macy’s Pavilions in Buckland Hills. The safety of our customers and our colleagues is Macy’s top priority,” Stephanie Jimenez, Macy’s external communications associate, said in a communicated “We are working closely with the local police department on this investigation and defer all comment on the case to them as per policy.”
In a news release Friday evening, police said they believed the suspect had fled the area. They asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Manchester Police Department at 860-645-5500.
