“Saturday Night Live” star Chris Redd was rushed to the hospital this week after being attacked at a comedy club in New York City, according to entertainment website TMZ and the site of The Hill news.
Redd, 37, was “punched in the face by a random guy and rushed to the hospital,” according to TMZ’s report.
The incident happened Wednesday night around 9:40 p.m. at the Comedy Cellar club in Greenwich Village, where Redd was scheduled to perform on both Wednesday and Thursday.
A man, wearing a security guard uniform, “ran up to Chris and punched him in the face.” A later report by TMZ indicates that the attacker used brass knuckles.
Police say Redd was exiting a vehicle outside the club when “an unknown individual approached and, without conversation or provocation, punched the victim in the face before fleeing the scene at parties unknown,” according to The Hill.
Police arrived at the scene and called for emergency medical services. An ambulance arrived and took Redd to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, where he was treated.
The suspect has not been captured as of press time.
Redd appeared on the NBC comedy from 2017 to 2022, leaving as part of an exodus at the end of last season. On the show, he was known for impressions of Cory Booker, Kanye West, Sterling K. Brown and New York City Mayor Eric Adams, according to Wikipedia.
