JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence dispute shortly before 5pm Tuesday.
Police spoke with the victim upon arrival at 4900 Chivalry Drive, who reported that her husband had shot her at her home.
She told police she left the house and her two young children were inside with the man.
The man got out and fired at police before retreating into the home, police said. JSO asked SWAT and crisis negotiators to get the man out.
After their attempts were unsuccessful, JSO says the house was broken into and the children were found safe.
The man was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police. It has not been identified.
The children, both under the age of three, were reunited with their mother.
