Four Deadly Identified in McKinney Fire – Medford News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News

The victims of the Northern California fire were all from the Golden State and were between 73 and 82 years old.

The names of four people killed in the McKinney fire were publicly identified Saturday.

After next of kin were notified, the US Forest Service – Siskiyou CAL FIRE Unit of the Klamath National Forest and the Siskiyou County Office of Emergency Services released the names.

They are: John Cogan, 76, of Klamath River, California; Charles Kays, 79, of Klamath River, Calif.; Judith Kays, 82, of Klamath River, Calif.; and Kathleen Shoopman, 73, of Klamath River, California.

“The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victims. If you are willing, please keep those affected by this fire in your prayers,” said Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue in a statement.

The press release also credited the Butte County Sheriff’s Office and Duane Spencer for their assistance in the DNA and dental analysis of the deceased.

The McKinney Fire, which started in Siskiyou County, California on July 29, is now 95 percent contained, according to the latest available information.
