CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after an officer-involved shooting in south Charlotte Friday night. It happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. in the 8900 block of St. Croix Lane. It’s in the Raintree neighborhood, off Providence Road.
Police say they arrived at the scene to serve an involuntary commitment warrant on a woman who lived at the home. They say a man opened the front door and when officers called out to the woman, she shot them from inside the home.
One officer was hit in the chest by a bullet, but his bulletproof vest prevented him from being injured.
An officer fired and hit the woman. She was taken to the hospital with what CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings describes as “critical” injuries.
The three officers involved were also taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
A firearm was recovered at the scene and police are continuing to investigate.
Jennings also says, “This is a good example of why these types of service calls are so dangerous.” He continues: “This is a good time to reflect on how dangerous our work is and how important it is to keep our community safe.”
