Pittsburgh police said Friday that six people were shot outside a funeral in the city’s Brighton Heights neighborhood. All six victims were reported to be in stable condition, police said. The shooting happened just after noon outside a funeral for John James Hornezes, Jr., one of three people killed in a shooting on Pittsburgh’s North Side on Oct. 15. This service was being held at Destiny of Faith Church on Brighton Street. A source says someone drove by the church in a vehicle and fired shots. Police could not confirm where the shots came from, but did say there was “very likely” more than one shooter. Police said they believe the shooting was targeted. Video of the service obtained by Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 shows people inside the church responding to the shooting, screaming and scattering. Two men were arrested on the McKees Rocks Bridge in connection with the shooting, temporarily closing the bridge. A gun had been seen thrown from the bridge. Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey made an impassioned plea for peace in the city. “We need to make sure this never happens again,” Gainey said. The mayor called several times for the violence to stop, imploring people not to retaliate. The mayor said he didn’t have all the information, but again, Pittsburgh police confirmed it appeared to be a targeted shooting. Gregg said the church will remain open.
